Privacy

What we process, what we deliberately do not, and why.

Your IP address

To show you your address, we read it from the connection itself — from the proxy headers that precede the request. We do not store it in a database, we do not attach it to a profile, and we do not send it to a third-party service in order to display it. That last point is the difference from most comparable sites: they fetch your address from a geolocation API, which means that API gets it too.

Lookups you run yourself

When you look up an IP address, domain or ASN, that query is answered from our own datasets on disk. Only for DNS, WHOIS and RDAP do we speak to the source live, because no copy of those can be current. The query then goes to the relevant nameserver or registry, as with any DNS or WHOIS tool.

Cookies

One cookie: NEXT_LOCALE, holding your language choice. It is set when you pick a language yourself and expires after a year. There is no tracking cookie, no advertising cookie and no cookie banner, because there is nothing to ask about.

Local storage

Your theme preference (light, dark or system) lives in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device and is not sent to us.

Logs

A web server writes access logs; ours runs on our own infrastructure. What ends up in them, and how long it is kept, depends on the configuration of the installation you are reading this on. Retention is kept as short as fault diagnosis requires.

Analytics

If analytics are enabled, it is stated here and done with a privacy-preserving setup: no cookies, no identifiable profiles. At present no analytics script is active.

What we cannot promise

We are not the only party between you and this page. Your provider, and possibly a CDN or hosting company in front of this site, also see traffic. We can only describe what this application does — not what every link in the chain does.

GDPR

This site is aimed at the Netherlands and the EU and is built on data minimisation: not collecting what is not needed. If you have a question about your data, get in touch using the details at the foot of this site.
